Botox injections are noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. They are also used to treat conditions such as neck spasms (cervical dystonia), excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), overactive bladder, and lazy eye. Botox injections have been shown to help prevent chronic migraines.
Botox injections are made of a toxin called onobotulinumtoxinA to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving.
Botox was the first drug to use botulinum toxin. Other products now include abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport), rimabotulinumtoxinB (Myobloc) and incobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin). Each product is a little different, particularly when it comes to units of dosage, so they are not interchangeable. Consult with your medical aesthetic doctor if you have been using one product and want to start using a different brand or manufacturer.
Many things can contribute to facial lines. People often here that fine lines and wrinkles are caused by aging and environmental factors. It is not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.
Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate and severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults. Reducing that muscle activity helps the surface skin look visibly smoother.
Before the procedure
The doctor will go over your medical history and perform a local exam and then explain to you about Botox and answer any questions you have
During the procedure
Botox is injected into the specified areas as discussed with you by the doctor
After the procedure
Do not rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours. This may help prevent the toxin from spreading to a different area. You can return to your normal activities right after the procedure.
Botox injections usually begin working one to three days after treatment. Maximum effects are visible quickly, within 7 to 10 days . The effect may last three months or longer. To maintain the effect, follow-up injections at regular intervals are required.
Dysport is a local muscle relaxant (or neuromuscular blocking agent) adapted from the botulinum toxin type-A and is used in both aesthetic and therapeutic indications.
Pure, simple, anti-aging treatment.
Xeomin is the latest neurotoxin to gain US FDA approval in 2011.
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin all contain the same active ingredient; however, Xeomin is described as a “pure” toxin because it does not contain any additives.
XEOMIN® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medication injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults, often called The Angry Elevens.
When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown line.
Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in XEOMIN® – acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent the muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, XEOMIN® can temporarily reduce the lines between your eyebrows.
There is a muscle which runs through the rear part of the cheek from the temporal bone to the lower jaw on each side and closes the jaw in chewing. With overuse from habitual teeth grinding the masseter muscles become larger and over developed. Over time this alters the shape of the lower face, creating a square jaw line.
Masseter Reduction, also called jawline slimming, is a simple and effective procedure which involves the injection of XEOMIN® into the large masseter muscles. XEOMIN® reduces or softens the appearance of the jaw by weakening the overlying masseter muscle or the chewing muscles, which leads to reduction in the size of the masseter muscle over time. The result is a softer angle of the jaw and a slimmer, more feminine facial shape.
During treatment, which usually takes about 10-20 minutes, our doctor will inject XEOMIN® into the muscles of the desired treatment areas.
No anesthesia is required; however, we may use a topical anesthetic or cold pack to reduce any discomfort.
The typical duration of results is up to 3 months in clinical trials but varies from patient to patient. Effects may last significantly longer or shorter.
Many patients begin to see visible smoothing within 3-4 days after the injection. On average, people begin to notice the effect in less than one week. The maximum effect is visible at 30 days.
