What are Botox Injections?

Botox/Xeomin injections are best known for reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles. They are also used to treat conditions such as neck spasms, excessive sweating, overactive bladder, and lazy eye. Botox/Xeomin injections have been shown to help prevent chronic migraines. They are made of a toxin called onabotulinumtoxinA, which temporarily prevents a muscle from moving.

How Botox Cosmetic Works

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines.

Botox/Xeomin Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate and severe frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines in adults.

  • Crow's feet
  • Forehead lines
  • Smoother-looking surface skin

What You Can Expect from a Botox Treatment

Before the Procedure

The doctor will go over your medical history, perform a local exam, explain Botox/Xeomin, and answer any questions you have.

During the Procedure

Botox/Xeomin is injected into the specified areas as discussed with you by the doctor.

After the Procedure

Do not rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours. This may help prevent the toxin from spreading to a different area. You can return to your normal activities right after the procedure.

Results and Product Options

Botox/Xeomin injections usually begin working one to three days after treatment. Maximum effects are visible within 7 to 10 days. The effect may last three months or longer.

Botox / Xeomin

Botox was the first drug to use botulinum toxin. Xeomin, approved in 2011, is a purer formulation with no additives. Other products include Dysport and Myobloc. Each product differs in units of dosage and is not interchangeable.

Follow-Up Care

To maintain the effect, follow-up injections at regular intervals are required.

Are There Side Effects?

Botox and Xeomin are generally safe and well-tolerated when administered by a trained provider. The most common temporary side effects include:

  • Mild bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site
  • Headache in the first 24 to 48 hours
  • Temporary drooping of the eyelid or brow if the toxin migrates (rare)
  • Slight asymmetry that typically resolves as the product settles

Serious side effects are rare. Results vary by person. Always inform Dr. Verma of any medications or medical conditions before treatment.

What are Xeomin Injections?

Pure, simple, anti-aging treatment. Xeomin received FDA approval in 2011. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin all contain the same active ingredient; however, Xeomin is described as a pure toxin because it does not contain any additives.

Xeomin is a prescription medication injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, often called the "Angry Elevens."

How Does Xeomin Work?

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.

Active Ingredient

Botulinum toxin type A acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent the muscle fibers from contracting.

Smoother Lines

By reducing these contractions, Xeomin can temporarily reduce the lines between your eyebrows.

Visible Timing

Many patients begin to see visible smoothing within 3 to 4 days. The maximum effect is visible at 30 days.

Xeomin for Masseter Reduction and Jaw Slimming

The masseter is a muscle that runs along each side of the cheek, connecting the temporal bone to the lower jaw, and is responsible for closing the jaw during chewing. With overuse from habitual teeth grinding, the masseter muscles become larger and overdeveloped.

Masseter Reduction, also called jawline slimming, is a simple and effective procedure which involves the injection of Xeomin into the large masseter muscles. The result is a softer angle of the jaw and a slimmer, more feminine facial shape.
